“Still waters….”, oil on canvas, 107 × 107 cms. 2026 .

This painting is one of a series that were inspired by the plight of displaced people. Sadly kindness now seems to be in short supply and many individuals, fleeing danger for a place of safety, encounter hostility. They are forced to exist in a form of purgatory - not able to move forward or back. The becalmed boat is a metaphorical attempt to express their plight. Currently on exhibition at the Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum until the 3rd. May 2026.

I am a figurative painter , or more precisely a painter of people, based in the UK. Unlike many painters I don’t see things and want to paint them. My imagery arises out of my life experience (either directly or vicariously from the arts and media) and is always metaphorical. It might help to see the paintings as “stills” from a movie. They all have a ‘back story’. Choosing the one image arising out of my internal narrative is like selecting the film poster for a movie - it has to express the essence of a rambling epic. They are all about my experience of us, of humanity. I am not trying to tell you anything - far from it, I am trying to find something out (hence their ambiguity). They may provide some insight or they may be puerile nonsense - that is for you to decide.

(I welcome interest in purchasing or exhibiting my artwork but please note that I don’t paint portraits, do commissions, or repeat images)

Below are a few examples of my paintings and drawings. I hope they will interest you enough to find out more about me and my artworks.
